Understanding Pitta

Pitta is one of three life forces (Dosha) which give each individual a unique constitution. This is an Ayurveda type that does not change in person’s entire life. Pitta contains properties of fire and water element.

Physical characteristics of Pitta Dominant personality

First thing you will ever notice about pitta dominant person is their radiance and clarity. They have medium sized eyes. They are muscular and have thirst of action however they have average height. Their skin is usually sensitive and bright and their hair colour is blond and reddish. Their gums tend to bleed and their teeth are more yellowish than white. They have a precise memory. They are usually very active and good in one particular sport where they can be very competitive. They are passionate and dedicated but sometimes they can be overly competitive, intolerant and irritable.

According to Ayurveda understanding your Dosha type is key to sticking to a diet that works for you. There are 3 dosh namely- Pitta, Vata and Kapha. The ancient practice of Ayurveda believes that humans are made up of three different ‘body types’ that determine your physical and personality traits. Each of the Dosha represent two of the five universal elements (combination of either air, water, fire, earth).

When Pitta is unbalanced, person can become aggressive and irritable. This imbalance can be caused by excessive consumption of alcohol, hot, spicy, oily, fried, salty, fermented food.  

 

(1). APPLE

Apples are good for balancing Pitta. However, raw and sour apples increase Vata and Kapha. Cooked apples help to ease constipation and it is advised to start day with stewed apples for the people having Pitta Dosha.

 

(2). MANGO

Mango is considered king of Aayurvedic fruits. There are many varieties of mangoes available in the market. Although unripe mangoes increase Pitta but ripe and sweet mangoes balances Pitta and Vata. Ripe mangoes are considered as tonic and can also be consumed with grains or with milk.

 

(3). GRAPES

Sweet grapes and raisins are highly recommended in Ayurveda. It is considered as best amongst all the fruits. Sweet raisins are dipped in ghee and added to deserts and pudding and are very beneficial for people with Pitta Dosha. It is advised to add grapes or raisins in diet in any form of people who have Pitta.

 

(4). WATERMELON

Watermelon balances Pitta and is an efficient way to fight against hot summers. One can consume watermelon either diced or in form of juice.

 

(5). PEAR

It is very good for providing energy and balancing out hormones. One must try to eat fresh juicy sweet pear to uplift their mood and emotions. Pear is light and is good for all the three Dosha.

 

(6). POMEGRANATE

Although it is sour in taste and also helps to balance out Pitta Dosha in particular. It is an absolute medicine for indigestion. One can consume pomegranate raw, in form of juice, in form of chutney or can consume raw seeds with water.
